The George, previously the Crown and Three Horseshoes (1715–64), was a favourite haunt of Gravesend people during the 19th century, who found it a convenient distance to walk on summer evenings. During the 1930s an extension on the south side opened up patronage to travellers using the A2 or Watling Street. Recent alignments (2008) to the A2 have isolated the Pub but it continues to be patronised by the nearby houses and two motels.
