Springhead Roman Artefacts

A collection of Roman Artefacts found at Springhead, on loan from Gravesend Historical Society to Gravesham Borough Council. These can be seen in full at Gravesend Chantry Heritage Centre.

The Roman name for the settlement was Vagniacae. They built a series of temples within a walled enclosure. The temples were decorated with mosaic floors and statues.

Pieces of costly imported marble, remnants of that used to decorate some of the temples, painted wall plaster fragments from the earlier large temple.
