Russell's Gravesend Brewery (one of four local breweries which have all disappeared) together with its wharf covered a large area and started brewing on a site in West Street in 1858. Truman’s took over the brewery site in 1932 from Russell’s and continued with their bottling store and offices. Eventually the site was closed and the maltings and proprietors house have been converted in maisonettes. The original Shrimp Brand logo could be seen in the wall but has been taken and incorporated in the wall of the flats, higher up, on the north side of the road.
